There is something special about October.
The cool mornings, changing leaves, warm drinks, and smells of something homemade baking in the kitchen remind us that another season has arrived. But as we welcome all the beauty that comes with fall, October can also remind us to slow down and recognize something far greater—the goodness of God.
“O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.” — Psalm 34:8 KJV
I love the words “taste and see.” The psalmist isn’t simply telling us to know that God is good. There is an invitation to personally experience His goodness and to trust Him.
Sometimes we notice God’s goodness in the big answered prayers. But so often, it is found in the ordinary moments.
A meal around the family table.
A warm loaf coming out of the oven.
A conversation with someone we love.
A quiet morning with an open Bible.
Another day of God’s mercy and provision.
As the leaves begin to fall this October, perhaps we can allow this season to remind us to slow down and look around.
God has been good.
He is good today.
And He will still be good when the seasons change again.
So bake something homemade. Invite someone to your table. Open your Bible. Give thanks for the blessings that are easy to overlook.
And most importantly, trust Him.

May October be a month of tasting, seeing, remembering, and sharing the goodness of the Lord.
